Glonary Awards Judging Process: A Data-Driven Scoring System

The Glonary Awards uses a data-driven approach to ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency in its judging process. This structured method is the foundation for recognizing the best in the industry.

How the Glonary Awards Scoring Works

Our objective, data-driven scoring evaluates nominations across four key criteria, minimizing subjectivity and focusing on measurable achievements. The areas assessed include:

  1. Achievement: Evaluates the nominee's most notable accomplishment.
  2. Main Content: Assesses the depth, clarity, and relevance of the submission essay.
  3. Summary: Judges the impact and conciseness of the key highlights summarizing why the nominee deserves recognition.
  4. Supporting Materials: Evaluates the relevance and credibility of any supplemental content, such as URLs or attachments.

Scoring Scale

Judges use the following standardized scale to assign scores:
The total score for each nomination is the sum of all four criteria, resulting in a final score out of 10.

Award Levels

The final score determines the award level:

Judge Responsibilities

As a judge, you are responsible for:

1. Thoroughly Reviewing Each Nomination

  • Read and analyze all parts of each submission, including supporting materials.
  • Ensure the achievement aligns with the criteria.
  • Allocate adequate time for a fair evaluation.

2. Assigning Scores Objectively

  • Apply the scoring scale consistently across all nominations.
  • Focus solely on the information provided, avoiding personal biases.

3. Completing Assignments on Time

  • Follow all submission deadlines to maintain the integrity of the judging process.

Why the Data-Driven Method is Superior

Fair and Objective

The Glonary Awards’ structured scoring system ensures consistency and fairness in judging. By eliminating subjectivity, we provide clear and measurable evaluations.

Guidelines and Best Practices for Evaluating Submissions

Scoring Process

Each entry is carefully reviewed and assigned a score by the judges on a scale of 1 to 10, based on the following criteria:

  • Excellent (Score: 10)
  • Very Good (Score: 9)
  • Good (Score: 8)
  • Above Average (Score: 7)
  • Average (Score: 6)
  • Ordinary (Score: 5)
  • Below Average (Score: 4)
  • Poor (Score: 3)
  • Poorest (Score: 2)
  • Avoid (Score: 1)

How Scores Decide Winners

The scores given by all judges are compiled, and an average score is calculated for each entry. Based on these average scores, the winners are categorized as follows:

Winners

  • Gold: Typically, an average score of 9 to 10.
  • Silver: Typically, an average score of 8 to 8.99.
  • Bronze: Typically, an average score of 7 to 7.99.

Non-Winners

Entries with average scores ranging from 0 to 6.99 are considered non-winners. These submissions generally lack quality and will not likely qualify for a Bronze award or any higher recognition. It is crucial to ensure that scores below 7 are carefully considered before assigning.

Scoring Considerations

When assigning a score, keep in mind the following factors:

  1. Achievement: Has the nominee clearly highlighted a significant accomplishment? Nominees are generally expected to focus on one main achievement per entry.
  2. Supporting Essay/Video: Does the nominee provide a detailed explanation of their achievement through written or video content?
  3. Supporting Materials: Has the nominee included sufficient content to substantiate their claims?
  4. Startups Categories: For startups, does the nominee provide evidence of their founding year, along with a clear description of one major achievement?

Recusing from Assignments

Scoring Assignments Without Industry Expertise
For categories requiring more general knowledge or not specific to a certain industry, judges should rely heavily on the provided content. In these cases, the relevance and quality of supporting materials are crucial.

Recusal as a Judge
If you believe you are not qualified to score an assignment due to potential conflicts of interest or lack of impartiality, you may recuse yourself. Please provide a reason for recusal to ensure transparency.

Judge’s Comments Guidelines

We ask judges to provide constructive and thoughtful feedback for each entry. Your comments help entrants understand their strengths and areas for improvement. These comments will be visible only to the nominees, maintaining the anonymity of the judges and ensuring fairness.

Constructive Feedback:

  • Provide personalized, actionable insights. Focus on strengths and areas for improvement, highlighting specific aspects of each entry.
  • Avoid generic comments. Tailor your feedback to each entry, discussing the application’s unique features.
  • Use professional and respectful language, maintaining anonymity.

Impact of Comments
Your feedback is crucial for the entrants’ development and may also be used in their marketing efforts. Your comments can have a lasting impact on their professional growth.

Guidelines for Providing Feedback to Entrants

At the Glonary Awards, we encourage judges to provide valuable, personalized feedback. Below are guidelines for writing effective comments:

1. Be Specific
Focus on particular aspects of the entry, such as innovation, impact, or presentation. Highlight what stood out and provide details for improvement.
Example:
"The section on your product's market impact was particularly strong, but the implementation could benefit from a more detailed timeline."

2. Be Constructive
Acknowledge both strengths and areas for improvement. Offer clear, actionable suggestions that can guide the entrant in refining future submissions.
Example:
"While the concept is innovative, presenting clearer data to support your claims would strengthen your argument."

3. Be Balanced
Ensure your feedback includes both positive remarks and constructive suggestions. This balanced approach motivates the entrant while offering a clear direction for improvement.
Example:
"Your research was thorough, but I recommend refining the visuals for clearer presentation."

4. Personalize the Feedback
Tailor your comments to the specific entry. This ensures that feedback is meaningful and directly relevant to the submission.
Example:
"In your project’s execution, I noticed the thorough attention to detail in the user experience design, which enhanced its overall impact."

5. Use a Standardized Format
To maintain consistency, consider using specific prompts when giving feedback. This helps create clarity while allowing judges to provide unique perspectives.

Example Prompts:

  • What part of the submission stood out to you and why?
  • In what way did the submission demonstrate innovation?
  • How could the submission improve in future iterations?

Understanding the Glonary Awards Scoring Guidelines

The Glonary Awards celebrate excellence across various sectors, and as a judge, your role is essential in maintaining the integrity and prestige of the awards. By following these scoring guidelines, we ensure that each submission is assessed in a fair, transparent, and consistent manner.

Scoring Scale

  • 10: Excellence – The entry sets the standard for innovation, execution, and impact within its category, serving as a benchmark for others to follow.
  • 9.0 to 9.9 (Gold): Outstanding Achievement – This entry displays exceptional quality, surpassing most expectations in its field, making it worthy of the prestigious Gold Glonary distinction.
  • 8.0 to 8.9 (Silver): Excellent – The entry demonstrates superior performance and innovation, deserving recognition as a Silver Glonary winner.
  • 7.0 to 7.9 (Bronze): Very Good – The entry shows commendable quality and achievement, meriting the Bronze Glonary recognition.

Entries with scores within these ranges are considered winners and will receive the appropriate award based on their average score across all judges.

Scores Below 7.0

  • Below 7.0: Does Not Qualify – Entries that fall below a 7.0 score fail to meet the Glonary Awards’ standards of excellence and will not receive any award recognition. These entries may possess some merits but do not meet the high expectations required for a winner.

  • Score of 0: Unacceptable – This score should be used only in cases where an entry is significantly below standard, contains false or inaccurate information, or fails to meet basic category criteria. Entries scoring 0 will undergo further review and are likely to be disqualified from any recognition.

Guidelines for Scoring

  • Objective Evaluation: Assess each entry based on its merits, using the criteria defined for its category. Consider factors such as innovation, impact, execution, and overall quality.
  • Constructive Feedback: Provide helpful feedback, especially for entries scoring below 7.0, to assist participants in improving and resubmitting.
  • Use the Full Scale: Be thoughtful and use the entire scoring scale to differentiate between varying levels of achievement.
  • Consistency and Fairness: Maintain consistency across evaluations. Review scores collectively to ensure they accurately represent the differences in achievement levels.
  • Consideration for a Score of 0: Review the entry thoroughly before assigning a 0, ensuring it truly meets the criteria for this score, as it indicates a failure to meet the standard for recognition and may include false or misleading information.

The average score of all participating judges will determine the distinction for each entry. It is crucial to uphold diligence and integrity to maintain the high standards of the Glonary Awards.

Anonymity of Judges

As a judge, it’s essential to remain anonymous while providing your feedback. Your scores and comments are anonymous, ensuring that nominees cannot trace their scores back to individual judges. This encourages a fair and open evaluation process.

While offering comments, be polite, respectful, and constructive. Your feedback should focus on the entry’s strengths and areas for improvement, without revealing your identity. This anonymity upholds fairness and impartiality in the evaluation process.

Judges’ Profile, eBadge, eCertificate, Reference Letter

  • Judges’ Profiles: Moving forward, only the judge's full name and organization will be published alongside a link to their LinkedIn profile. This ensures that the most current and comprehensive information is available.

  • Timeline: Judges who complete at least 50 assignments will have their full name and LinkedIn profile published on the judges’ page after winners are announced.

  • Recognition for Judges: Judges who complete 50 assignments or more for any awards program will receive an eBadge and eCertificate specific to that program. Judges who complete fewer than 50 assignments will be acknowledged with a special ‘Thank You’ mention on the judges’ page.

  • Printed Certificates: Starting in 2024, printed certificates will no longer be mailed, though they can be purchased by those wishing for a physical copy. The production and shipping time frame is 6-8 weeks after the confirmed order.

  • Reference Letters: Judges completing at least 50 assignments are eligible for a reference letter, which will be issued digitally through services such as Docusign.

  • Work/Business Email: Judges must maintain an up-to-date work or business email for communication and verification purposes. Changes to email can affect the issuance of eBadges and eCertificates.

Judges who complete fewer than 10 assignments will not be eligible for any recognitions. However, their contributions will be acknowledged on the judges’ page under “Participating Judges Acknowledgment.”

At the Glonary Awards, we are currently handling an exceptionally high number of reference letter requests, with over a thousand pending. We understand the significance of these letters and are committed to processing them as efficiently as possible. However, due to the large volume, processing each request manually has become challenging.

To streamline the process and ensure timely handling, we kindly request that you use digital signature platforms such as DocuSign, HelloSign, or other similar services. This approach has proven to expedite request processing significantly in the past.

For your convenience, we have provided a step-by-step guide on how to utilize these digital services. You can access this guide through the Glonary Awards Reference Letter Procedure.

Please note that due to the current request volume, we are unable to accept email attachments for reference letter requests at this time.

We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this busy period. Thank you for being part of the Glonary Awards community and for your continued support.

Can a Judge Apply for an Award?

At the Glonary Awards, we uphold fairness and equality for all participants, including our esteemed judges. If a judge wishes to submit their own entries, they must follow the same application process, undergo the same review procedure, and pay any applicable fees as any other participant. This ensures a fair competition and upholds the integrity of the awards.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who can apply to be a judge?
Anyone who is a business owner or employed professional in any industry, from anywhere in the world, can apply to be a judge. Simply complete the "Apply to be a Judge" form for the awards program you wish to volunteer for.

Who is selected as a judge?
From the thousands of applications we receive for each program, we select only those with significant industry expertise and qualifications. We value the insights and experience these experts bring to the judging process. Every year, thousands of judges from diverse industries participate, and their average scores determine the Glonary Awards winners.

Can a person submit nominations and also participate as a judge?
Yes, a judge can submit their own nominations; however, they cannot score their own entries. They are still eligible to score all other nominations.

What is the judging process?
The Glonary Awards judging process is structured to ensure fairness, transparency, and integrity. Here are the main steps:

  • Judge Selection: Judges are carefully chosen based on their expertise, industry experience, and accomplishments.
  • Assignment of Entries: Judges are assigned a set number of entries to evaluate (typically around 50), ensuring each entry is reviewed by multiple judges.
  • Review and Scoring: Judges assess each entry based on predefined criteria and provide scores and detailed feedback.
  • Confidentiality and Integrity: Judges adhere to strict confidentiality agreements and ethical guidelines to maintain fairness.
  • Consensus and Finalization: Scores are aggregated, and discussions may occur to reach consensus on the best entries.
  • Announcement of Winners: The winners are finalized and announced based on judges’ scores and feedback.
  • Feedback and Improvement: Feedback from judges helps improve the process for future editions.

This transparent and rigorous process ensures the Glonary Awards celebrate true excellence and innovation.

What are the requirements for Glonary Awards judges to receive the full benefits of participation, and what happens if assignments are not satisfactorily completed?
To qualify for full benefits, judges must complete at least 50 assignments. If assignments are deemed unsatisfactory by the Glonary Awards Judging Committee, the judge may be removed from further participation, and their scores will be nullified.
